The Illumination exhibition contains a
series of drawings and paintings that focus on presenting the humanity and
experiences of black people through beauty and body language. While the
Serenity and Weight Series focus on using the profile as a marker of
reappropriating negative portraiture into presentations of black aesthetics,
the Periphery Series focuses on presenting black body language in response to
stereotype threat with the hoodie being used as a racially charged marker of
identity.
